Alexander Mikhalyants was born in 1942 in Temir, Aktobe region, Kazakh SSR.
He received his art education independently, outside the academic school.

In 1959–2000 worked in the system of the Art Fund of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1999 he received the title of “Honored Artist of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea”, in 2017 – the title of “People’s Artist of the Republic of Crimea”.
Alexander Mikhalyants creates modern jewelry based on the artistic traditions of different peoples and technical achievements, the use of “non-traditional”, natural materials and ways of expression. He is close to archaic and art nouveau, ethno-style and constructivism. But, despite the obvious allusions, the author’s style of the artist is distinguished by a bright individuality. The artist’s products are always functional and at the same time meaningful, as the artist deeply thinks through the image: both its idea and its plastic solution.

The range of materials used by Alexander surprises not only with their variety, but also with their original artistic and expressive properties. The artist knows how to achieve the maximum sound and expressiveness of each material, whether it is shells from the southern seas or the bark of an exotic tree. The artist rarely works with ready-made stones, he always processes them himself.
