Bone china is a type of hard porcelain. It was invented in England in an attempt to recreate the formula for making Chinese porcelain, which was admired throughout Europe. English manufacturers tried to make porcelain of the same quality as Chinese porcelain, but they had to take a different path. The creation of bone china is attributed to Josiah Spode (Josiah Spode, 1754 – 1827). The composition of the mass used to make bone china usually includes 25% kaolin (a special white clay), 25% feldspar with an admixture of quartz and 50% burnt animal bones.
