The master was born in Moscow in 1967. Having received a professional education, Andrey Avvakumov went to work as an artist-carver in Sofrino. The enterprise is located in the village of the same name and belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church, the products of the plant are corresponding – icons, icon cases, utensils, iconostases, chandeliers, church doors and other attributes of Orthodox culture.
“Sofrino” became an excellent school for a novice artist, here the master received sufficient technical capabilities to hone the skill of a carver. Andrey Avvakumov worked at the Russian Orthodox Church enterprise for eleven years from 1991 to 2002. He studied the theological works of Orthodoxy well and was imbued with the history of Christianity. Religious subjects are still the source of inspiration for the master, but now they are denounced not in canonical, but in secular, philosophical forms. Angels decorate the pendants of the master, Saint Barbara is frozen at the manuscript on a decorative plaque, the endless Tower of Babel covers the handle of the customized Spyderco folder.
Professional activity Andres Avvakumova
An important milestone in professional development was the cooperation of the jeweler with the “Kavida” workshop. The manufactory specializes in artistic casting, it was this kind of art that made Andrey Avvakumov famous. The master created many works for Kavida, among which plaques, which are copies of famous masterpieces, occupy a special place. Dürer’s paintings, Bilibin’s drawings, Archimboldo’s caricatures, Escher’s stairs. By the way, the Dutch artist is represented not only on decorative works by Avvakumov, one of the master’s best applied works is the “Fish” buckle, created based on the painting by Maurits Cornelis Escher. You can order this buckle belt from our store.
When creating his works, the author is inspired not only by borrowed plots. Andrey Avakumov has a tremendous talent for observing, especially subtly manages to notice and convey the nature of plants. Like many of his colleagues, the artist created a sufficient number of portraits of garden flowers: chrysanthemum, lotus, iris, lupine, mostly decorate the master’s brooches. But especially subtly the jeweler manages to convey the beauty of simple representatives of the flora. His decorative panorama “Dandelion”, brooch “Chanterelles”, tsuba “Sprout of lilac”, thimble “Artichoke”, buckle “Pine”, ring “Poppies” and lanyard bead “Thistle” captured the deep essence of their heroes.
Favorite works of the jeweler
Avvakumov also has representatives of the fauna, but, unlike plants, the animals in the author’s works are not realistic, but fabulous. Even the predators are depicted not in pretentious anger, but with good humor. An octopus with an Octopus bead, a Polar Owl thimble. Little Dragon figurine, a Lizard buckle, a Cat ring – they all seem to come to life as illustrations of children’s books.
The master’s favorite materials are silver and brass. It is extremely rare in the works of Andrey Avvakumov to find inserts made of semi-precious stones; the master usually decorates rings with them. The decor of fragmentary blackening and mirror polishing gives a special relief to the jeweler’s artifacts.
