DFB Briggs is a story about an American company that specialized in the creation of costume jewelry.

**The beginnings of the company**
In 1882, D.F.B. Co. was founded in Attleboro, Massachusetts by brothers W.K. Tappan and Charles.
An important moment for the company was the patenting of a bracelet design that used hinged links instead of an elastic band. This innovation served as a starting point for the expansion of production.

In 1903, the production of Carmen bracelets began, which were labeled as “Carmen” or “Carmelita”, in honor of the daughter of one of the owners.
The company became one of the leading manufacturers of jewelry, including rings, chains, bracelets and earrings, and opened offices in New York, Chicago, St. Louis and London.

In 1922, the company was renamed Briggs, Bates & Bacon.
In 1950, the company’s activities were curtailed. D.F.B. Briggs products are now rare and prized by collectors.

**Product Range**
Mostly sterling silver, gold plated or enameled were used. All products were hallmarked “D.F.B. Co.”
