Finland Erik Granit Sterling Silver Abstract Modernist
Vintage jewelry brand Erik Granit (E. Granit & Co.) was founded by Finnish jewelry designer Erik Granit in 1956 in Helsinki.
Granit worked primarily with sterling silver, but also created gold jewelry. Each piece had the company name – E. Granit & Co. on it. Some models had the words “Design Jewelry” under the name.

Erik Granit (1930-1988) – a native of Finland, a modernist jeweler.
He founded the brand at the age of 26, when he opened his workshop and design company. Granit remained in Helsinki throughout his career until his death in 1988.
Granit created minimalist and abstract designs.
Using local Finnish stones – quartz, amethyst, spectrolite. The stones were shaped into graceful shapes due to their softness.
Creating modernist abstractions from metal – they decorated rings and bracelets.

Granit did not have a set style – some of his modernist works were complex, others – minimalist.
Markings on jewelry included various small stamps: Erik Granit (or EG), 925H (or 925 Sterling) for silver purity, the Helsinki stamp and others. Markings also included a letter and a number (for the year of production) – for example, S7 for 1971.

Erik Granit’s work was widely recognized in the 1960s. His modernist designs were popular for several decades.
In 1988, the Erik Granit & Co. brand ceased to exist. However, jewelry created by Granit is still popular among antique collectors.
