The beginning of the Leo Askhim brand era is associated with the establishment of the mattje in Mallinge – a silver-plating workshop founded by the extraordinary entrepreneur Leo and his wife Inger (1930-2017) in the mid-20th century.

In 1953, the enthusiastic duo opened their first workshop in Aarhus. Having boldly started with silver-plating everyday objects such as coffee pots and dishes, Leo soon switched to unique experiments: he became the first Danish craftswoman to master the technology of silver for children’s shoes. This breakthrough brought the workshop in Aarhus to a leading position.

In 1959, Leo Askim acquired a large plot of land on Bredgade in Mallinge, and a year later he built a spacious production building and a family villa. Expanding its horizons, since 1966 the brand has been producing silver jewelry not only for the domestic Danish market, but also exporting it to the Nordic countries.

In the early 1990s, production resumed after a temporary stagnation. However, the history of the factory ends symbolically – on the last day of the century, December 31, 1999, the doors of the workshop are closed forever.
