St. John is a popular American luxury knitwear brand for women. The brand “St. John” was founded by the spouses Mary and Robert Gray in 1962, in Southern California, USA. Mary Gray used a knitting machine to make elegant and sophisticated knitted dresses of her own design. Robert Gray recognized the potential of the fashion business in his wife’s passion, and together the couple opened their own factory for the production of knitwear, and then buttons and jewelry.

Inveterate fashionistas often compare St. John jewelry with Chanel-style jewelry, in part this remark is due to the general similarity of the classic tweed jackets of both brands. And as a result, the brooches, necklaces and bracelets that complement the clothes of “St. John” are really similar to the jewelry of “Chanel”, and in terms of workmanship they are not inferior to the famous competitor.

Thematically, “St. John” jewelry is represented by popular heraldry: brooches, charm bracelets and belts are decorated with numerous variations of crosses and coats of arms. Miniature brooches are represented by images of animals, insects and plants. And the long strands of the necklace are embellished with faux pearls and sparkling Austrian “Swarovski” crystals.

The first advertising face of “St. John” was Mary Gray, who presented her favorite tight-fitting knitted dresses. From the mid-1980s, the daughter of Mary and Robert Gray, Kelly, became the advertising face of the brand “St. John” for 15 years, she combined the work of an advertising model with the position of director of advertising, and later holding the position of co-president and creative director companies.
