Aleksey Zubov, jeweler, was born in Kaunas, now lives in Moscow.
Initially, I did not even think about a career as a jeweler, I worked as a promoter, supervised the opening of new clubs and restaurants in Moscow. Once I ended up in Kenya for work, and already there, quite by accident, I became interested in jewelry.
Then I got involved in a terrible adventure – I was offered to participate in the purchase of diamonds. The guide took us to a village in Tanzania, stones were poured on the table in front of us. Whether it was diamonds or not, we could not determine, but everything ended rather ingloriously, but excitingly – we had to hide from the police and from local bandits. Everything went well.
I returned to Moscow with the thought of precious stones and decided to change my life. He started with a profile education – he took a course in the evaluation of precious stones, received a certificate as a gemologist, then entered the Higher School of Design for jewelry design. As a result, it is already the fifth year that I have been engaged in jewelry business. I am constantly learning: advanced training, new techniques, looking for new materials for my work.
I love working with stone. All minerals are very different, with their own light, heat, energy. It’s nice to feel that I can show the best in stone in the product, complement it, create the perfect shape.
Favorite metal – titanium, stones – garnet group: spessartine, tsavorite, tourmalines. Alexey never ceases to be amazed at the ability of materials to change under the influence of temperatures and various chemical processes, for example, under the action of hydrofluoric acid, gray titanium turns scarlet. Isn’t it amazing?
“In my work, I most of all dislike the “computer stage” – when you have to sit at the monitor for days and build a 3D model of the future jewelry. But I like spending time at the workbench, with a tool in my hands, on the contrary. A jeweler is quite stubborn work and not at all as exciting as it might seem from the outside. I like it so far. If suddenly I feel that I am disappointed, well, I’ll go back to learn something new. “- says Alexei Zubov.
