Known for his exquisite taste and unique vision for the art of transforming stones into works of art, Martin Katz founded the eponymous jewelry company in 1988. He was quickly able to win an international vocation and attract wealthy clients who are among the Forbes Top 400 Business Leaders in the United States, as well as ambassadors and other individuals with the makings of collectors.
Martin’s obsession with gemstones has made him widely known for recreating vintage jewelry with a modern twist. Each piece of jewelry he creates exists in a single copy or is released in a limited edition (then all piece items are signed and numbered). Many of Martin Katz’s pieces have been sold at auctions by Christie’s and Sotheby’s at prices far in excess of those originally set in his showroom.
In addition to his talent as a jeweler, Katz discovered his abilities as an interior designer. The recently refurbished New York Palace Hotel has a suite called the Martin Katz Jewel Suite. More spacious than most Manhattan apartments, the three-story 5,000-square-foot suite includes a living room, dining room, and entertainment room with jacuzzi. A distinctive feature of the room is a six-meter chandelier called “Waterfall of Diamonds”, which is located above the spiral staircase.
Numerous pieces of jewelry by Martin Katz (many pieces from private collections) will be displayed in one of the galleries in honor of the jeweler’s twenty-five-year history. The suite will cost $25,000 a day, which includes a Martin Katz ring and a design consultation. “Designing the interior of the suite was easy,” says Martin. How to decorate your own home!
