American Dior
Hanna Golofsky was born in New York in 1923. At the age of 14, she entered the Trephagen School of Design in her hometown. A few years later, a fateful meeting with Ben Klein took place, they soon got married, and Hannah became Anna Klein forever. In 1948, the couple launched a joint project, establishing the company Junior Sophisticates, in which Ben managed the business, and Anna carried out the creative process.
The main direction was the design of clothes for youth, but soon Anna was fascinated by the world of fashion for adults – young, but still adult women. She was fascinated by the work of Dior, Chanel and other world-famous fashion designers – and over time, Anna Klein herself began to be called the American Dior. At the same time, Anna always focused in her collections on the convenience of wearing the things she created, preferred a sporty style and casual – in general, what she herself defined as “everyday chic”.
Path to glory
In 1968, Anna, together with her second husband Matthew Rubinstein, founded the company Anne Klein & Co and, accordingly, the Anne Klein fashion brand, which became a global one a few years later. In this House, such stars as Calvin Klein (Anna’s namesake), Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren began their path to fame. And the main creative achievements of the brand include the introduction of elements of men’s fashion into women’s fashion (Anna developed the ideas of Gabrielle Chanel in this direction) and the creation of a whole category of women’s clothing, called Junior Miss.
To date, the brand is represented in more than 5,000 stores on all continents! In the early 1970s, at the peak of her career and in the prime of her talent, Anna Klein boldly launched a line of shoes and accessories. But in 1974 she died from a severe and transient illness. Donna Karan, who later created her own brand (we talked about it), headed the house of Anne Klein as the main fashion designer.

The Anne Klein wrist watch, as a must-have accessory for a modern young woman, which is both an elegant decoration and, nevertheless, a useful tool for controlling time, appeared in 1976. It was then that a partnership began with the E. Gluck Corporation, a New York-based manufacturer of entry-level practical watches. The founder of this company, Eugene Gluck, initially did not strive for flashiness of his products, but the quartz boom and cooperation with Anne Klein & Co allowed him to make a real breakthrough, moving on to the release of more interesting models.
